We've never seen anything like this in the history of our animal sanctuary—a cow saving itself!
Suddenly, there was a new cow—right in the middle of our herd. But what had happened?

A dairy farmer a few towns away took a herd of cattle to a pasture a few kilometers from us. The unfamiliar situation was apparently too much for the young cow, and she panicked.
She took off running. Through fences, across meadows and fields, right across a paddock, through a stream—until she finally ended up at our sanctuary, right in the middle of our herd of cows.
Usually, people rescue animals and take them to an animal sanctuary.
Mathilda simply chose her sanctuary all by herself.
Of course, everyone was very excited—both people and animals. The owners arrived on the scene quickly, too. But the young cow was still so panicked that no one could get close to her.
She seemed to feel safe only when she was protected by the other cattle. So we all decided to give her some time for now.

And somehow, I immediately had this feeling: “Mathilda can stay. She belongs here.”
Of course, the farmer hadn't planned on giving her away. We are all the more grateful to him for finally deciding, after many discussions, to let us take Mathilda.
From the very beginning, it seemed as if she had always been part of the herd. Rarely has a new member been welcomed so warmly.
Once she had gotten used to her new situation, she became more curious and trusting with each passing day. The fact that she is so open with people also shows us that she was well treated at her previous farm—and for that, too, we’d like to thank the farmers.

Saving one animal doesn't change the whole world, but the whole world changes for that one animal.
... and ours a little bit every time, too.
Yours Joar
